Frequently Asked Questions
What to expect before, during and after a class. If yours isn’t here, call (201) 596-4204 and ask.
Do I need any medical background or experience?
No medical background is required for GRF Training’s First Aid, CPR and AED classes.
They’re built for people with no clinical training. Most people who walk in have never done chest compressions before. You’re shown how, then you practice, and there’s an instructor with you while you do it.
What does a class cost?
Current prices for every GRF Training class are listed on the classes page.
Can I take the class online instead of in person?
GRF Training offers two formats: Instructor-Led Training taught entirely in person, and Blended Learning that pairs online coursework with an in-person skills session.
Both formats end with you showing a certified instructor that you can do it. Blended Learning shortens your time in the classroom. Bring proof that you finished the online part.
What should I wear and bring?
GRF Training students should wear comfortable, flexible clothing and closed-toe shoes, because classes involve kneeling, bending and hands-on practice.
Skip skirts, anything restrictive, and open-toe shoes. If you’re in a Blended Learning class, bring proof that you completed the online session.
Do I practice on a mannequin or on another person?
GRF Training students practice CPR and AED skills on mannequins, and life-threatening bleeding skills on limb trainers.
The choking skill is the one practiced with a partner. If you’d rather not, there’s a no-contact version. Just tell your instructor.
How many students are there per class?
GRF Training runs one instructor for every 12 students, and there’s no cap on class size.
Bigger groups get more instructors rather than less attention. Whatever the size of the room, somebody is watching you practice.
Is there a written test, a skills test, or both?
Every American Red Cross class at GRF Training requires passing a hands-on skills test. Basic Life Support taught in person also requires passing a written exam.
If you can’t complete a required skill or testing scenario, you’re given the option to reschedule your class.
What if I can't get the compressions right?
Students at GRF Training who can’t complete a required skills session or testing scenario are given the option to reschedule their class.
What certification do I get, and who issues it?
GRF Training is an American Red Cross Licensed Training Provider, and every certificate earned in a GRF class is issued by the American Red Cross.
It’s the same certificate issued anywhere in the Red Cross network, recognized by employers and organizations nationally.
How long is my certification valid?
Most American Red Cross certifications from GRF Training last two years. Babysitter’s Training lasts 10 years and Bloodborne Pathogens lasts one year.
How and when do I get my certificate?
GRF Training students receive their American Red Cross certificate by email, usually within 24 hours of finishing the class.
You can also pull it up any time at redcross.org/getcertificate.
Does this certification satisfy OSHA or workplace requirements?
The First Aid/CPR/AED course from GRF Training is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA, workplace or other regulatory requirements.
How do I sign up and pay?
Booking a GRF Training class takes two steps on the class page: enter your name and email, then pay through PayPal using any payment method.
There’s no account to set up. If you’d rather book by phone, call (201) 596-4204.
What if I need to cancel?
GRF Training refunds 100% of your class fee, minus processing fees, if you cancel more than 72 hours before the class starts.
Between 72 and 48 hours, you get full credit toward a future class or products. Under 48 hours, that credit is 25%. Full terms are on the refund policy page.
Can I book a private class for a group?
GRF Training runs private classes at your location for groups of four or more.
Call (201) 596-4204 and we’ll find a date that works around your schedule.
Can you train our staff at our location?
GRF Training runs on-site classes at workplaces across New Jersey and the tri-state area, with a minimum of four people.
There’s no maximum. Larger groups get additional instructors to keep the ratio at one to 12, which may add a fee. Your team certifies without leaving the building, on a date that fits your operations.
Do you handle AED placement, equipment or safety assessments?
To strengthen workplace readiness, GRF Training provides free, no‑obligation on‑site safety assessments for businesses and organizations. The assessment includes evaluating existing emergency equipment, reviewing placement and accessibility, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements aligned with industry best practices.
What classes do you teach?
GRF Training teaches 16 American Red Cross certification courses covering CPR, AED, first aid, babysitting, bloodborne pathogens and emergency medication administration.
The full list with dates and prices is on the classes page. If you don’t see what you need, call (201) 596-4204.
